Hello my fellow creatives! I hope this finds you well (and not miserable with spring allergies like I have… Boo!) I had to take a few weeks off to deal with some family things (all is well,) and am happy to report that my productivity is back on track. I don’t know about you, but sometimes if I stay away from the studio for too long it can get comfortable and I get nothing accomplished. Besides, Art (for me) is very therapeutic and allows me to focus on myself and my thoughts, and not on everyone else for a change. It’s all about rockin’ that self-care, people! Anywho…this little post is just showcasing some of the things I’ve been working on lately and have put in my space today at Deep Creek Vintage.
IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: Deep Creek Vintage is celebrating its 4th Anniversary on June 17th from 10-5pm! You must visit for this very special occasion! There is no where else around here (that I know of) where you can shop for one-of-a-kind items vintage decor and painted furniture, and they even offer all kinds of classes plus ghost tours! (I think I mentioned in a previous post that DCV is a 1750’s manor house, so yeah….it’s haunted.) FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY. (insert cheesy grin.)
Lately I’ve really had an itch to do more graphic pieces, rather than just slapping paint on an old table (not that there’s anything wrong with that, but for me it gets boring.) I try to paint furniture that I would want in my house…things that make a statement, maybe a little different, but definitely not something you would buy at your local furniture store. This sad little creature was so homely, but deep down I knew she had a quasi-European side to her that was dying to come out.
I’m just realizing that these two pieces are cousins/of the same collection…and I didn’t dress them the same…..one is a little 19th century floral lad, and her bigger cousin is the flamboyant French cafe’ table… (OH WELL.)
Ok, so I hesitate to even show this Craigslist disaster. The poor little fella had been spray-painted a terrible pink by well-meaning grandparents for their little grandaughter, but it was just too much headache for them to complete. I had to strip that baby down to his inner ugliness to start anew.
Here is the completed piece (mirror not attached at the moment because I left the brackets at home, AGH!)
Image transfers on the drawers. (By the way, don’t you hate it when you see on Craigslist or elsewhere “dovetail DRAWS.” Oh my goodness that drives me crazy, they’re not “draws!”)
Here’s a little looksy around the room…more stuff coming soon!
