Thrift Store Score!

Thrift Store Score!

Any day that involves a good-Goodwill score is a fantastic day to me. Today was one of those days. Sometimes you can just feel it…that there’s going to be some good loot today; that you will inevitably leave with many treasures for very little green. I thought maybe I’d find a good item or two, so I didn’t get a cart. I go straight to the housewares section and since they are all sorted by colors, I go straight for the silver items (hoping to score some platters, etc.) And guess what? I did!

The first item I picked up was this beautiful wine bucket originally from Target, originally priced at $17.99! img_0044The tag said $1.99 (which is freaking awesome) BUT today the Color of the Day at Goodwill (when all prices with that tag color are 1/2 off) was green like my item, so I got this wine bucket for a cool $1!  With my mind racing, I knew I needed a cart immediately. This was going to be a good trip. For the wine bucket I plan on using it as a pretty vase. I thought it would look amazing holding some peonies. (Have to remember to buy some flowers tomorrow.) You could do anything with this actually. I just loved the beading around the top and bottom edges, and the handles on the sides make it nifty to move around.

The next wonderful item I found was this 70’s-looking brown wooden magazine rack. imageIt was originally $15 and since it was a “green-tagged” item I only paid $7.50 for it I’ve actually been searching for one for several weeks since I saw this great idea on Pinterest to upcycle a magazine rack into a baking sheet/cutting-board holder. I loved the idea, (especially since I’ve started chalk painting everything in my house that isn’t nailed down) so I knew this could look great in my kitchen. I will definitely post an “after” when it’s done. Hope to get to that project this week!  My husband said “What in the world do you need that for?” When I showed him the Pin he just nodded. Sidenote: Does anyone else’s husband not have “the Vision?” He always likes things after they’re completed, but hates me bringing home new stuff. Moving on!

I forgot one other thing I picked up in the silver area. It looked to me like a silver sugar packet holder you’d find in Grandma’s house when she has guests over. I loved it because it was pretty and shiny.  Then it dawned on me what I could use it for: a business card holder. Joy! As a realtor on the side, I am always looking for cool office swag, and this totally beats the boring black plastic business card holder I had before. I just love it!

My next item I found was this cool little framed metal/relief wall art item (that was a long description.) It had a Roman theme to it (you know I love anything Roman) and was framed with this cheesy burgundy velvet mat. img_0056 I thought that maybe I could paint the velvet white and put it in my office since I’m going through an all-white phase right now. It only cost $4.99. There was a second one which was identical to this one, but the little metal scene wasn’t attached to the board and I didn’t feel like fixing it, so I hesitantly left it there to die alone. Sorry not sorry.

Well that did it for my Goodwill Score! I was so happy when I put everything in the trunk of my car.  Of course I left everything there until my husband wasn’t home then unloaded everything into my dining room (where everything sits until I’m ready to play with it, which hopefully will be soon!
